Publiceret 02-12-2024

Together with work package leaders and key contributors from five work packages, this new repot compiles the most significant outputs from the Nordic Sustainable Construction programme's first phase. The result is a compact, coffee-table-style book that presents new insights into the world of climate- and resource friendly construction solutions in an accessible and engaging format.

Since 2021 the Nordic authorities of Housing and Construction, academia and stakeholders from the construction value chain has collaborated and contributed to minimise the climate and environmental impact of the Nordic construction sector.

Through the Nordic Sustainable Construction programme, the topics harmonisation of LCA, circularity and public procurement, sustainable construction materials and architecture, emission-free construction sites, national annex to the Eurocodes and competences for reuse have been investigated, debated, developed and communicated across the Nordics, EU and beyond.

A Unified Nordic Approach to Sustainable Construction

Drawing on knowledge created by a wide range of Nordic experts, the Toolbox for Future-Proof Construction presents a unified approach to promoting sustainability in the construction sector. The report emphasises harmonisation and collaboration across the Nordic countries, the integration of digital tools, and the transition to circular business models. It also highlights the importance of education and skill development, as well as policy-driven change to support sustainable practices.

This comprehensive new report aims to share the work build in the Nordic Sustainable Construction programme and to be an inspiration to contributing to the goal of making the Nordic region the most sustainable and integrated in the world by 2030. It is a toolbox, because it contains recommendations that will hopefully serve as an inspiration for future practical and regulatory work and inspire in the Nordic countries, the EU and beyond.

Communicating to a wide audience

The programme secretariat has not only overseen efforts related to competencies and reuse in construction but also taken responsibility for disseminating the programme's many results. This includes ensuring that the insights are effectively applied in the industry, create meaningful impact, and reach a wide range of stakeholders in the construction sector. This new publication is a key part of the dissemination effort, designed to have a lasting impact across various professions in construction - whether focusing on LCA calculation methods, place-based architecture or something different regarding sustainable and competitive construction and housing – with minimised environmental and climate impact.
